Grado and surroundings

Grado is an island that reminds you of Venetian architecture. It is surrounded by many isles that make up the lagoon, which is joined to the mainland by a narrow piece of land. The town centre with its ancient buildings and narrow alleyways is a very suggestive place. The old harbour, which used to be Grado’s trade centre and was built with a “Y” shape during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is the town “living room” overlooking the sea, with cafés, restaurants and shops.

Grado has been awarded the “Blue flag” every year, an international recognition for accuracy and cleanliness of the coast and the sea water. It is also a meeting point for sportmen: there are golf courses with 18 holes, it is popular for bird-watching, its cycling paths and the ferry boat trips.
